Editorial Policy

Independence
GoldenRetrieverInsurance.com is editorially independent. No insurance provider, advertiser, or affiliate partner has the ability to review or influence content prior to publication. Editorial staff do not see commission rates when scoring or ranking providers, and rankings are never adjusted to favor higher-paying partners.
Topic selection
Topics are selected based on three criteria: reader search demand for golden-retriever-specific insurance and health questions, gaps in existing online coverage where generic pet-insurance content fails to address breed-specific risks, and material policy or regulatory changes that affect coverage. We do not accept guest posts, sponsored articles, or pay-to-play placements.
Sourcing standards
Health and medical claims must be sourced from peer-reviewed veterinary literature, the Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, the OFA database, AVMA guidance, or board-certified veterinary specialists. Cost and pricing data must be sourced from NAPHIA reports, published state rate filings, or direct provider quotes within the past 12 months. Coverage details must be sourced from the insurer's current sample policy document.
Author bylines
Every article displays the named author who wrote it and the named editor who fact-checked it. We do not publish anonymous content or content generated entirely by AI. Author bios and credentials are listed on the About page.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools for research assistance, draft outlining, and grammar checking. Every published article is written, edited, and verified by named human editors. AI-generated text is never published without human rewriting and source verification.
Medical disclaimer
We are not licensed veterinarians, and nothing on this site is veterinary advice. All health information is educational and is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment from a licensed veterinarian.
How we research, write, and review
Every article moves through a five-step editorial process: research, first draft, independent fact-check, senior-editor review, publication. Nothing gets published without clearing all five. When something skips a step — a breaking regulatory change, a same-day carrier pricing update — we say so at the top of the article and complete the missing steps within 48 hours.
Editorial standards
Voice is first-person and direct. We write "we" and "you," not "one" or "the reader." Plain English, no jargon. Every number has a source. Every claim has a citation. Opinions are labeled as opinions. We don't publish generic intros, clickbait headlines, or the "comprehensive coverage / peace of mind" pattern that dominates this niche. Every page has to earn its URL. We do not cross-post the same content across state or city pages with the state name find-and-replaced.
Conflict of interest policy
We earn affiliate commissions when readers click carrier links and buy policies. This is disclosed on every page where those links appear. We do not accept payment from carriers for editorial coverage. We do not allow carriers to review or approve content before publication. Editorial staff do not see commission rates when scoring or ranking, and no editor's compensation is tied to a specific carrier's conversion.
Source verification
Every quantitative claim traces to a primary source. Allowed: NAPHIA, AVMA, OFA, AKC, ACVS, AVDC, ACVD, ACVIM, Morris Animal Foundation, Purdue, Cornell, UC Davis, Colorado State, peer-reviewed veterinary journals, and state insurance department filings. Not allowed: Reddit threads, forum posts, anonymous blog posts, other affiliate sites, or press releases that don't cite their underlying data.
Review process
Pre-publication, every page is reviewed by two editors — one on content and structure, one on veterinary and factual accuracy. Post-publication, every page is re-audited quarterly for source freshness, dead links, and stale statistics. Off-cycle reviews are triggered by carrier exits, regulatory changes, breakthrough medical research, or a reader-flagged error.
Our promise to readers
We will always disclose affiliate relationships. We will always cite real sources. We will never publish content we wouldn't want a friend with a new Golden puppy to read. If we make an error, we fix it under our Corrections Policy — dated, visible, and acknowledged.
